Anna Stevens (she/her) is an imaginative theatre director, a dedicated teaching artist, and an innovative storyteller currently based in Birmingham, Alabama & Atlanta, Georgia. Anna also has experience working on the administrative and production side of Non-Profit Theatres, Event Planning, and Producing Theatre!

Anna has a distinctive directing style that blends contemporary plays with surrealism which enables her to evoke powerful emotions and bring the human experience to life in a thought-provoking and unique way. Her style encourages audiences to engage with the material in a new and impactful way. Overall, Anna's directing style prioritizes creativity, emotional resonance, and unique storytelling. Her personal aesthetic, which is driven by a feminist and queer perspective, is aimed at inspiring change and encouraging action through her art.
 

Anna is drawn to theatre that pushes boundaries, challenges her, and seeks to innovate through new work. Her mission is to continue to learn, grow, and surround herself with those who think outside the box. The stories she tells are deeply intimate, poetic, and hauntingly thought-provoking, reflecting her belief that the role of the director must also be that of a teacher and activist. She is committed to the idea of process over product and the shared humanity of all people.

As a teaching artist, Anna is passionate about making theatre accessible to all ages and promoting growth and learning through her teaching. Her philosophy is to empower artists and foster creativity, self-confidence, and self-expression, all while promoting a lifelong appreciation for the arts. Additionally, Anna believes that theatre offers a unique opportunity for artists of all ages to expand hearts and minds.
